Imprisoned Iranian student activist Majid Tavakoli has been awarded today the Student Peace Prize of 2013. The Prize is awarded biennially, on behalf of all Norwegian students, to a student or a student organization that has made a significant contribution to creating peace and promoting human rights.
The prize committee wishes to acknowledge Tavakoli for his non- violent fight for freedom of speech and democracy. “The Student Peace Price is this year awarded to a young and brave person,” commented the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre.
